The School of Nutritional Science was started in 1977 by Dr. James Flaherty, Ph.D. Dr. Flaherty wanted to inspire in others the passion he felt for the field of nutrition.
His early research verified the relationship between food quality and body degeneration and he launched his school as a way to educate people on the essentials of nutrition.
Since 1977, people from all walks of life... MDs, engineers, food supplement retailers... have taken the course. (The most famous was probably Joanie Greggins who leads Americans at home in daily exercises on various fitness television shows.) Some took the course to further their careers in nutrition. Others so they could have a career. Many took it to simply improve their life styles and to increase their medical treatment options.
Dr. Flaherty never aggressively marketed his school. He found students through a few simple classified ads in health magazines. In November of 1995 the school was purchased by Dr. Kenneth Johnson, orthomolecular nutritionist, and his organization, International Nutrition Consultants, Inc. Dr. Johnson believes, as does Dr. Flaherty, that we can achieve optimal health by providing our bodies with the nutritional elements it needs. The School of Nutritional Science, says Dr. Johnson, provides an excellent medium for providing knowledge to a maximum number of people.
Complementary medicine, of which nutrition is a major facet, has become so prominent that many medical schools, including Harvard, Columbia and Stanford are offering courses in it. A recent survey in the Chesapeake Bay area found that 70% of family physicians want to receive training in the areas of alternative health.
Dr. Flaherty is the director of the School of Nutritional Science.
The School of Nutritional Science is licensed by the State of California for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.
As an international orthomolecular nutritionist, I have devoted many years to the study of why proper nutrition is so necessary for good health and complete well being. In my practice I have always searched for better answers, for ways to help my patients achieve and maintain their natural state of wellness.
Much of my time and energy goes into studying the extensive worldwide research of nutrition and herbs. A vast amount of documented evidence proving that nutrients and herbs can indeed help restore and maintain good health is now available. I aim to help make the knowledge available to as many people as possible.
My colleagues at International Nutrition Consultants, Inc. and I feel that the School of Nutritional Science provides an excellent platform for dispensing this knowledge. The basic course is a significant first step. There are several supplemental courses available for follow on study. We are consistently at work developing new material which will keep you on the leading edge of nutrition.
This information will be available to you through our newsletter, through chat groups on the Internet and through specially arranged conference calls.
By requesting this catalogue you have expressed an interest in an exciting, ever evolving field of study. I pledge you my best efforts in keeping this course current, interesting and informative, whether you are a dedicated health care professional or a individual interested in improving your health. I hope you find this study of nutrition as rewarding as I have. For the gift of health is one, if not the most important area of humanity.
Welcome!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth D. Johnson,
S.M.D., S.N.D. O.M.D., Ph.D.
